Tom Read is a special counsel and leads Bazzani Scully Priddle’s litigation team. Tom has over 20 years’ experience in commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution, providing clients with advice in this area in relation to their corporate and commercial requirements.

Tom acts for and advises individuals, businesses and corporates across a wide range of areas, including litigation around breach of contract, employment law, misleading and deceptive conduct, business and property acquisitions, corporations law, debt recovery, security enforcement and insolvency. His recent experience includes:

  • Defending a national transport company in Supreme Court proceedings in which a landlord alleged property contamination and failure to make good under a lease. The claims were resolved at mediation for a fraction of the amount claimed.
  • Acting for clients involved in a contentious business partnership dispute. There were disagreements about the sale of a portfolio of assets and how to deal with partnership lenders. Tom implemented a legal strategy which led to a positive outcome for our clients.
  • Recently acting for a landlord in a dispute with its tenant regarding payment of rent and outgoings. With Tom’s advice, the landlord recovered possession of the retail premises

Tom’s career track record includes managing litigation before the High Court of Victoria, Australian Federal Court, all State courts, relevant tribunals and the Fair Work Commission. Tom’s litigation experience extends to the United States, where he was admitted as a Legal Consultant by the Supreme Court of New York.
